This unit is based on the Year 1 Australian Curriculum HASS Inquiry Skills, Knowledge and Understandings. Students explore time through photos of the stages of life and use terminology including yesterday, today, a long time ago, etc. They create a timeline of months and seasons, and significant events in their life. Students explore how we record memories and celebrate significant events. They explore how changed can happen to a person quickly or over time, and investigate what changes may happen in Year 1. Students create a time capsule of information on themselves.

Sort and record information and data, including location, in tables and on plans and labelled maps

Explore a point of view
Draw simple conclusions based on discussions, observations and information displayed in pictures and texts and on maps
Present narratives, information and findings in oral, graphic and written forms using simple terms to denote the passing of time and to describe direction and location
Differences in family structures and roles today, and how these have changed or remained the same over time
How the present, past and future are signified by terms indicating time, as well as by dates and changes that may have personal significance, such as birthdays, celebrations and seasons
Differences and similarities between students' daily lives and life during their parents’ and grandparents’ childhoods
Demonstrates skills of historical inquiry and communication
Communicates geographical information and uses geographical tools for inquiry
Communicates an understanding of change and continuity in family life using appropriate historical terms
Collect and record geographical data and information from the field and other sources
Represent data and the location of places and their features by constructing tables, plans and labelled maps
Sequence significant events about personal and family history to create a chronological narrative
Interpret data and information to draw conclusions and describe the direction and location of places, using terms such as north, south, opposite, near, far

Differences in family structures of families and the role of family groups today, and what they have in common and how these have changed or remained the same over time

Time Sequencing
In this lesson, students will investigate that certain activities take time and how time can move between months of the year.

Human Life Stages
Students will investigate the different stages of the human lifestyle and how they change over time.

Creating a Timeline
In this lesson, students will create their own timeline about significant events in their life.

Significant Events
Students look into significant events is important in our life because it makes us all special and is part of our history.

About Me
In this lesson, students will be talking about the things they like and how sometimes others may like different things.
Lesson 7
Changes to Me
Students will learn all about the changes that happen to everyone, and how these changes can occur quickly or take a long time.
