Calculating Curious Currencies
This worksheet introduces students to the idea that there are different currencies used around the world. Students will calculate change using different currencies, just as they would using amounts in Australian dollars. This worksheet is a part of a larger unit, designed to consolidate students’ abilities in counting money and making change.
Learning goals
- We are learning to recognise the relationships between dollars and cents and represent money values in different ways, e.g. calculating change in role-plays.
- We are learning to count the change required for simple transactions to the nearest five cents and represent money in multiple ways.
- We are learning to solve practical problems involving addition and multiplication including money problems, such as budgeting, using multiple strategies.
- We are learning to calculate change to the nearest 5 cents and solve problems involving purchases.
- We are learning to solve problems involving purchases and calculate change to the nearest 5 cents, using both mental strategies and digital tools.
