Playing Card Chance

This activity uses a deck of playing cards to estimate the probability of a certain outcome. Have students complete this activity with a partner or group to compare probability and relative probability. The included answer key walks students through the results. This is a great repeated chance experiment that will generate lots of interesting class discussions.

Learning goals

  • We are learning to conduct chance experiments, including those with and without equally likely outcomes, record the outcomes and the number of times the outcomes occur and to describe the relative frequency of each outcome.
  • We are learning to recognise that probabilities range from 0 to 1.
