Factor Tree Game
Designed as a simple game for Year 5 maths rotations, the Factor Tree Game requires students to determine all 'factors' of a given whole number.
You can easily extend this game by asking students to identify the Highest Common Factor (HCF) or Lowest Common Factor (LCF) across two or more cards.
You could also challenge students to write a problem to match each card, e.g. There are 24 students in the classroom. How many ways could you group students so that each group contains the same number of students, and there are no students left out?
Learning goals
- We are learning to express numbers as products of their factors, identify multiples and apply divisibility rules to large numbers.
- We are learning to create and use algorithms using multiple steps to experiment with factors, multiples and divisibility and identify and describe emerging patterns.
- We are learning to identify and describe factors and multiples of whole numbers and use them to solve problems.
