The Decoding Detectives Quiz is an auto-timed quiz that allows students to demonstrate their ability to decode individual words and simple sentences using consonant digraphs and long vowel phonemes. The quiz can be done with the whole class or 1-on-1 for a more formal assessment.

Learning goals
- We are learning to read decodable and authentic texts fluently using phonic knowledge and to monitor meaning using context and grammar.
- We are learning to use vowel sounds, consonant blends and digraphs when writing and reading one- and two-syllable words.
- We are learning to understand that a letter can represent more than one sound, e.g. cat, swan, ball, fast etc. and that a syllable must contain a vowel sound.
- We are learning to read decodable and predictable texts fluently and use strategies to make meaning.
