Create a Character

As your students are introduced to narrative writing, these character traits worksheets are a terrific template to allow your students to begin to describe their chosen character. There are 2 versions available to allow for differentiation. This template will help your students with their planning stage of writing.

Learning goals

  • We are learning to retell or adapt familiar stories through performance, reciting rhymes, writing, drawing pictures or using technology.
  • We are learning to create, re-read and edit short written and multimodal texts to report on a topic, express an opinion or recount an event using capital letters, punctuation and correct spelling.
  • We are learning to retell familiar texts through role play, reciting rhymes, drawing pictures or using technology.
  • We are learning to imitate the speech, characteristics or attitudes of familiar characters.
  • We are learning to create texts for a purpose that show our understanding of the connection between writing, speech and images.
  • We are learning to edit our texts and make changes to improve meaning, spelling and punctuation.
  • We are learning to use software, e.g. MS Word to construct texts and add images.
  • We are learning to recognise characteristics of different types of texts, e.g. traditional beginnings and endings of fairy tales and rhyme in poetry.

Differentiation

Modifications

Use the 1st option and have students draw their character and write 6 adjectives that describe them. 
 

Extensions

Use the 2nd option which allows students to delve more into their character’s personality by including character traits, likes, dislikes and interesting adjectives.
