Suffix Reference Sheet

This student reference sheet contains well known suffixes and their definitions as a resource for students to refer to throughout the unit. It is a hand tool for students to keep with them as they work through the associated worksheets. This resource is part of the Strategic Spelling Unit Plan.

Learning goals

  • We are learning to use known words, base words, prefixes and suffixes, word origins, letter patterns and spelling generalisations to spell new words.
  • We are learning to use less common plurals, e.g. cactus/cacti, louse/lice, and understand how a suffix changes the meaning or grammatical form of a word, e.g. โ€˜tionโ€™ can change verbs into nouns, protect โ€“ protection.
