This colourful game provides opportunities for students to practice the Jump or Inverse Strategy.

This resource includes a reproducible recording sheet, with number lines, which not only assist the students in finding the answer, but it makes a great formative assessment tool.

It was designed for the Year 2 Mental Subtraction Strategies Unit, but could be used in the Year 1, for extension or Year 3, for consolidation.

Learning goals

  • We are learning to solve problems involving modelling addition, subtraction, equal sharing and grouping, using different strategies.
  • We are learning to recall addition facts to 20 and apply to related subtraction facts using a range of strategies.
  • We are learning to use a range of mental and written strategies to solve simple addition and subtraction problems.
  • We are learning to add and subtract two-and three-digit numbers using place value groupings.
