Pick Your Pizza

Pick Your Pizza

This engaging and (tasty) activity allows students to consolidate their knowledge of halves, quarters and eighths  by creating their own pizza and using fractions to add their favourite toppings. A great whole class, independent or rotational activity! This two-page worksheet is part of our comprehensive Fantastic Fractions Unit Plan for Year 2. It provides a great opportunity to make observations of student understanding.

Learning goals

  • We are learning to solve problems involving modelling addition, subtraction, equal sharing and grouping, using different strategies.
  • We are learning to identify one half as two equal parts of a whole.
  • We are learning to recognise halves, quarters and eighths of a whole and connect halves, quarters and eighths through repeated halving.
  • We are learning to use halves, quarters and eighths in relation to shapes, objects and events in everyday situations, e.g. cutting a pizza, cup and spoon measures.
  • We are learning to recognise halves, quarters and eighths of an object and to understand that a group of objects can be separated to show halves, quarters and eighths of the group.
