Fraction Problems

Fraction Problems

This worksheet allows students to consolidate and demonstrate their knowledge of halves, quarters and eighths by working through four fraction word problems. Students have space to visualise and model their working out. A great whole class, independent or rotational activity! A great way to observe student understanding and a fun way to learn about fractions. This worksheet is part of our comprehensive Fantastic Fractions Unit Plan for Year 2.

Learning goals

  • We are learning to solve problems involving modelling addition, subtraction, equal sharing and grouping, using different strategies.
  • We are learning to identify one half as two equal parts of a whole.
  • We are learning to recognise halves, quarters and eighths of a whole and connect halves, quarters and eighths through repeated halving.
  • We are learning to use halves, quarters and eighths in relation to shapes, objects and events in everyday situations, e.g. cutting a pizza, cup and spoon measures.
  • We are learning to recognise halves, quarters and eighths of an object and to understand that a group of objects can be separated to show halves, quarters and eighths of the group.
