Maths Unit: Fantastic Fractions
This comprehensive unit plan has been created to support students when learning to recognise and interpret common use of halves, quarters and eighths of shapes and collections. The unit plan comes complete with a detailed presentation, posters, worksheets to support and extend students, an abundance of games and an assessment which can be used for both pre and post testing.
Learning goals
- We are learning to recognise halves, quarters and eighths of an object and to understand that a group of objects can be separated to show halves, quarters and eighths of the group.
- We are learning to recognise halves, quarters and eighths of a whole and connect halves, quarters and eighths through repeated halving.
- We are learning to use halves, quarters and eighths in relation to shapes, objects and events in everyday situations, e.g. cutting a pizza, cup and spoon measures.
