Fantastic Fractions - Student Reference Card

These reference cards are a great anchor charts and a useful reference point for your students to paste in their workbooks or have handy and laminated on their desks. Refer to these charts when explicitly teaching fractions.

Learning goals

  • We are learning to solve problems involving modelling addition, subtraction, equal sharing and grouping, using different strategies.
  • We are learning to identify one half as two equal parts of a whole.
  • We are learning to recognise halves, quarters and eighths of a whole and connect halves, quarters and eighths through repeated halving.
  • We are learning to use halves, quarters and eighths in relation to shapes, objects and events in everyday situations, e.g. cutting a pizza, cup and spoon measures.
  • We are learning to recognise halves, quarters and eighths of an object and to understand that a group of objects can be separated to show halves, quarters and eighths of the group.
  • We are learning to recognise 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, 1/5, 1/10 and their multiples to a complete whole and fractions of groups in different ways.
  • We are learning to recognise 1/2, 1/4, 1/3, 1/5 and their multiples to a complete whole and to locate fractions on a number line.
