In the 'Far Out, Flamingos!' elapsed time challenge, students will determine the elapsed time between a given start time and end time. There are multiple levels in this activity and extensions included. This is a good assessment activity for understanding of elapsed time.

Learning goals

  • We are learning to use β€˜am’ and β€˜pm’ notation and solve simple time problems including duration and converting between units of time e.g. 60 mins = 1 hour.
  • We are learning to use β€˜am’ and β€˜pm’ notation and solve simple time problems, e.g. calculating time spent at school, time spent travelling between two locations, determining arrival time with given departure time.
  • We are learning to estimate and compare the duration of events using days, hours, minutes and seconds.
  • We are learning to interpret and use timetables and itineraries to plan activities and calculate the duration of events and journeys.
