Learning goals

  • We are learning to add and subtract one- and two-digit numbers, using a variety of strategies, e.g. partitioning, doubles, near doubles, bridging to 10 and rearranging and regrouping of numbers.
  • We are learning to multiply and divide one- and two-digit numbers in word problems using a variety of strategies.
  • We are learning to solve problems by using number sentences for addition or subtraction.
  • We are learning to recall multiplication facts of two, three, five and ten and related division facts.

Differentiation

Modifications

•    Use boards with simpler facts for students still building division confidence.
•    Provide multiplication fact charts as a scaffold.
•    Allow oral responses or collaborative play for extra support.

•    Have students create their own division boards using multiplication facts they’ve learned.
•    Ask students to explain how they solved each problem before placing their marker.
•    Introduce a timer to encourage fluency and quick recall.
