These CCVC Word Student Reference Cards give students a clear and simple understanding that CCVC words are made up of 4 sounds rather than 4 letters.

Students can stick these in their workbooks as a useful reference point.

Learning goals

  • We are learning to use sounds in spoken words, adding, deleting and subtracting initial, medial and final phonemes (sounds) to build new words (phonological awareness).
  • We are learning to use sounds in spoken words, adding, deleting and subtracting initial, medial and final sounds to build new words.
  • We are learning to recognise and know how to use simple grammatical morphemes to create word families, e.g. jump, jumps, jumping, jumped.
