This flexible unit is designed to cover the Australian National Curriculum for Year 2 - Earth and Space Sciences. Throughout this unit, students will develop an understanding of our solar system, particularly that the Earth’s rotation on its axis and orbit of the sun cause regular, predictable changes.
Recognise Earth is a planet in the solar system and identify patterns in the changing position of the sun, moon, planets and stars in the sky
Pose questions to explore observed simple patterns and relationships and make predictions based on experiences
Describe how people use science in their daily lives, including using patterns to make scientific predictions

Lesson 1
The Earth
We will learn about our planet, Earth.
Lesson 2
The Solar System
We are going to learn about the other planets around us, and how they all form our solar system.
Lesson 3
The Moving Sky
We are going to see how our rotation and orbit affect the sky, and how people used to think it was the sky that moved, not us.
Lesson 4
The Moving Sun
We are going to see how the movement of the Sun through the sky creates predictable patterns.
Lesson 5
Patterns of Movement
We are going to look at other examples of how the movement of the Sun, Earth and Moon create predictable patterns.
Lesson 6
