The key concepts in this unit include:
 

• Living things depend on each other and their environment to survive.
• Ecosystems survive by creating and maintaining balance.
• Plants are the basis of ecosystems, providing food and shelter for many animals.
• Living things occupy particular roles in a food chain, for example: producers, consumers and decomposers.
• Interactions between living things can be either competitive or mutually beneficial.
• Sudden changes to one aspect of an ecosystem (like the extinction of a species) can have very large effects on other aspects of the ecosystems.
   

• We are learning to explain the roles and interactions of consumers, producers and decomposers within a habitat and how food chains represent feeding relationships.
