This unit covers the Biological Sciences strand of the Australian Curriculum for Year 4. In this unit, students will learn about the world’s biomes and the ecosystems that exist within them. They will learn about the different roles that exist in those ecosystem, as well as the risks faced by ecosystems.
Each of the lessons has an accompanying worksheet for students to complete and the unit culminates with a final assessment where students play a huge game acting out the aspects of the ecosystems they have been studying. An activity that they are sure to love.
Explain the roles and interactions of consumers, producers and decomposers within a habitat and how food chains represent feeding relationships
The key concepts in this unit include:
Describe an ecosystem.
Understand how things compete and work together to stay alive.
Understand the hierarchy of consumer animals within the food chain.
Understand the risks that exist for ecosystems.
In this lesson, students will take what they have learned throughout this unit and apply it within a fun Ecosystem survival game which is followed up with an worksheet which can be used as the assessment.
