This unit is based on the Foundation Australian Curriculum HASS Inquiry Skills, Knowledge and Understandings.
Students explore events from the past and how we remember them through commemorations.
They investigate events that we commemorate and sequence them in relation to the months of the year in which they occur.
Students discuss how events from the past can be retold and remembered in stories. They learn and sequence the Aboriginal Dreamtime story, Tiddalik.
Students explore different events around the world and make comparisons between how they are celebrated between countries. They discuss, and learn, that different family traditions can be dependent on your location in the world.
Students revise their understanding of questioning and begin to pose questions to a friend about Christmas. They select a family commemoration and sequence it into FOUR main events. Students respond to questions to provide details on a commemorative event.
