CVC Tongue Twisters - Short U
A presentation for practising CVC short ‘u’ words using three picture-based tongue twisters. Each set features a sequence of images (bug, bus, cup / pup, gum, rug / run, sun, tub) arranged in rows for students to read aloud in order, increasing speed and fluency. This activity supports phonemic awareness, decoding skills, sound blending, and oral reading confidence. Teacher guidance encourages students to ask for help if needed.
Learning goals
- We are learning to understand that a letter can represent more than one sound, e.g. cat, swan, ball, fast etc. and that a syllable must contain a vowel sound.
Curriculum alignment
Australian Curriculum covers QLD / SA / WA / NT / TAS / ACT.
