These Rules of Divisibility were requested by our member, Emma, and include all the rules for dividing by numbers 2 through to 10.

Learning goals

  • We are learning to solve problems involving division using different strategies and express answers as a whole number, decimal or fraction.
  • We are learning to solve problems involving division by a one digit number, including those that result in remainders.
  • We are learning to multiply and divide decimals by multiples of powers of 10 using our knowledge of place value and multiplication facts (times tables), to estimate and check answers.
  • We are learning to multiply and divide decimals by whole numbers where the results are terminating decimals.
  • We are learning to multiply and divide decimals by powers of 10.
