This poster is designed to illustrate the difference between flips and slides to young students. This is a par of a larger unit designed to teach your students the basics of geometric transformations, including single-step slides and and flips, and quarter and half turns.

Learning goals

  • We are learning to investigate the effect of one-step slides and flips.
  • We are learning to identify, describe and demonstrate quarter, half, three-quarter and full turns, e.g. hands on a clock, in dances and in the school environment.
  • We are learning to identify, describe and draw half and quarter turns.
  • We are learning to describe and perform translations, reflections and rotations of shapes and to identify symmetries.
  • We are learning to describe translations, reflections and rotations of two-dimensional shapes and to identify line and rotational symmetries.
