Problem Solver
These problem solvers are a way of getting your students to work within the 4-step problem solving method they were introduced to, at the beginning of the unit. While some students will have internalised this very quickly, it can be a useful tool for students who might otherwise struggle, and a great way of helping you identify where they are making their mistakes. Give every student a few pages of them or have a stack of them pre-cut at the front of the room.
This resource is a part of a larger unit designed to show year students another method of systematically solving word problems and allow them to practice a range of strategies to solve problems of varying complexity.
Learning goals
- We are learning to solve practical problems involving natural and rational numbers and percentages in financial contexts.
- We are learning to select and apply efficient mental and written strategies and digital technologies to solve problems involving addition, subtraction, multiplication and division with whole numbers.
