Perimeter - Crack the Code

This fun resource puts a spin on learning about perimeter. Students use their growing perimeter knowledge to work out the answer to the two questions displayed on each side of this worksheet. Essentially, students calculate the perimeter of each shape, record the answers and locate the corresponding answer to record the letter which cracks the code (the answer!)
Encourage students not to share the answer until all students have had a go. Both pages have answer sheets.

Learning goals

  • We are learning to calculate perimeter and area of rectangles using familiar metric units.
  • We are learning to solve practical problems involving the perimeter and area of regular and irregular shapes using appropriate metric units.
  • We are learning to use scaled instruments to measure length, mass, capacity, duration and temperature.
  • We are learning to use scaled instruments to measure length, mass, capacity and temperatures.
  • We are learning to compare the perimeter and area of shapes, counting appropriate formal and informal units.
