This Duration Unit Plan introduces students to the mathematical skill of comparing duration of events and activities. This unit guides students through the comparison of different activities and their duration, and provides numerous opportunities for class discussion and open dialogue.

Learning goals

  • We are learning to compare objects using mass, length and capacity, e.g. heavier, lighter.
  • We are learning to compare objects and events based on length, mass, capacity and duration using comparative language, such as short, wide, long, high.
  • We are learning to sequence days of the week and times of the day and connect them to familiar events and actions, e.g. connecting breakfast to morning.
  • We are learning to explain the order and duration of events.
