The Long Vowel Sounds - 2 Piece Puzzles assist Year 1 and Year 2 students to identify the long vowel sounds in words. This activity introduces the idea that the same sound can be made by a number of letter combinations.
Learning goals
- We are learning how to spell one and two syllable words with common letter patterns.
- We are learning to use digraphs, long vowels, blends and silent letters to spell one and two syllable words, including some compound words.
- We are learning how to spell one- and two-syllable words with common letter patterns.
- We are learning to use most letter-sound matches including vowel diagraphs, less common long vowel patterns, e.g. ight, consonant clusters and silent letters, e.g. knife, thumb, when reading and writing words of one or more syllables.
