Evaluative Language Continuum
This resource has been designed to explore evaluative language and shades of meaning. It will allow students to begin using vocabulary that will express a greater precision of meaning in student writing. Simply cut out the words and order them on the continuum according to the level of their strength, modality or meaning. Use the What Does it Mean? template, included in the pack, to deepen their understanding of new vocabulary.
Learning goals
- We are learning to examine how evaluative language can be varied to be more or less forceful.
- We are learning to demonstrate a range of feelings and positions by building vocabulary (including technical words) to express judgements about characters and events using modal verbs and adverbs.
