This comprehensive unit plan has been designed to explore evaluative language, including modal verbs. Through the use of the presentation, activities and worksheets students will extend their technical vocabulary and ways of expressing feelings and opinions. At the completion of the unit, there is an assessment for teachers to utilize to assess student learning.

Learning goals

  • We are learning to examine how evaluative language can be varied to be more or less forceful.
  • We are learning to demonstrate a range of feelings and positions by building vocabulary (including technical words) to express judgements about characters and events using modal verbs and adverbs.
