Do I Need to Wear a Suit?
This worksheet presents students with a scenario where they must write two emails demonstrating their understanding of the difference between formal and informal use of language. This worksheet could be used as an explicit teaching activity, independent activity, during literacy rotations or a guided language group. This resource is part of the Degrees of Language Formality Unit Plan.
Learning goals
- We are learning to recognise that we can use language differently with our friends, family and in various cultural contexts, e.g. periods of silence, but that language is typically formal in texts and in written form.
Curriculum alignment
Australian Curriculum covers QLD / SA / WA / NT / TAS / ACT.
Differentiation
Modifications
Students who find this challenging can complete one of the emails.
Extensions
Students can annotate their writing to demonstrate evidence of formal and informal language.
