This short unit is based on the Year 1 Australian Curriculum HASS Inquiry Skills, and Knowledge and Understanding for History. Students will explore the differences and similarities between a range of family structures (such as nuclear, one-child, single-parent, adoptive, step and blended families, and kinship groups). They will compare families in the present with those from the recent past, and examine roles of family members over time. This includes the roles of parents, children and extended family members. Students will demonstrate their understanding toward the end of the unit and complete a hands-on flip book.
