Problem Solving Task Cards
These twenty task cards support students to develop their problem-solving skills. The twenty questions encourage students to use the problem-solving steps that have been adapted from the Newman’s Analysis concept and focus on applying a variety of problem-solving strategies. These task cards are a part of the Year 3 Problem-Solving unit and can be used in a variety of ways within the classroom. With two tasks per page, these task cards are a must for any classroom working on problem solving.
Learning goals
- We are learning to recall addition facts to 20 and apply to related subtraction facts using a range of strategies.
- We are learning to recall addition and subtraction facts to 20 and to develop mental strategies for larger numbers.
- We are learning to use a range of mental strategies to solve simple addition and subtraction problems.
- We are learning to solve problems involving modelling addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, using different strategies.
- We are learning to solve multiplication problems using mental and written strategies and calculators to check our answers.
- We are learning to follow and create number sentences to investigate number patterns and rules and to find emerging patterns.
- We are learning to describe, continue and create number patterns and use addition and subtraction to identify the rule.
