Patterns in Poems

This worksheet allows students to demonstrate their understanding of text features and poetic devices. It is the perfect accompaniment to the Foundation Patterns in Words Unit. Students will identify syllables, alliteration and rhyme from a well know nursery rhyme.

Learning goals

  • We are learning to understand texts can be in many forms such as signs, books and digital texts.
  • We are learning to understand texts can be in many forms and that stories and informative texts have different purposes.
  • We are learning to listen for rhyme, letter patterns, syllables and sounds (phonemes) in spoken words (phonological awareness).
  • We are learning to listen for rhyme, letter patterns, syllables and sounds in words.
  • We are learning to recognise characteristics of different types of texts, e.g. traditional beginnings and endings of fairy tales and rhyme in poetry.
