(Non)Emergency Scenario Sort

In this activity, students use their understanding of emergencies to sort scenarios into emergencies and non-emergencies. Blank cards are included so that you can customise the scenarios for your students’ context, or just have a bit of fun.

The activity is part of a larger Health unit designed for years 1/2 using the national HPE curriculum.

Learning goals

  • We are learning to understand and recognise what an emergency situation is, and to be comfortable with what we should do in an emergency.
  • We are learning to practise strategies we can use when we feel uncomfortable, unsafe, or need help.
  • We are learning to recognise ways to promote health, safety and wellbeing.

Differentiation

Extensions

The sort can be made more challenging by having students further sort emergencies based on the department that would need to respond. These scenarios can also become role-plays for 0-0-0 calls between students.
