Missing Number Race- Level 2
Get students’ brains switched on and practising pre-algebra concepts involving addition and subtraction. Students pick up cards, read the problems and solve the problems as quickly as they can. The person who solves the problem first keeps the card. The player with the most cards at the end wins!
Use this fun activity in numeracy rotations or as a fast finisher activity.
Laminate gameboards for a quick and effective maths rotations activity or use the black and white versions that students can decorate themselves.
Learning goals
- We are learning to find unknown quantities in number sentences involving addition and subtraction, using the properties of numbers and operations.
- We are learning to use inverse relationships between addition and subtraction to find unknown values using different strategies.
- We are learning to recall multiplication facts for twos and apply to related division facts using doubling and halving.
- We are learning to recognise and represent multiplication as repeated addition, groups and arrays.
- We are learning to divide a set of objects into equal sized groups to solve simple problems.
- We are learning to explore number sequences by twos, threes, fives and tens from any starting point.
- We are learning to recall multiplication facts of two, three, five and ten and related division facts.
- We are learning to use number sentences and partitioning to demonstrate the connection between addition and subtraction.
- We are learning to use counting-on and partitioning to understand the connection between addition and subtraction.
- We are learning to find unknown quantities in number sentences involving addition and subtraction and identify equivalent number sentences involving addition and subtraction.
