Calculator Challenge
Get students brains switched on and practise pre-algebra concepts involving addition and subtraction. Students must interpret number stories involving addition and subtraction, record a number sentence to match and then use a calculator to solve the problem.
Use this fun activity in numeracy rotations or as a fast finisher activity. The student worksheet can be used to monitor students understanding of inverse operations to solve problems.
Laminate gameboards for a quick and effective maths rotations activity or use the black and white versions that students can decorate themselves.
Learning goals
- We are learning to use inverse relationships between addition and subtraction to find unknown values using different strategies.
- We are learning to use number sentences and partitioning to demonstrate the connection between addition and subtraction.
- We are learning to use counting-on and partitioning to understand the connection between addition and subtraction.
