Embedded Clauses Poster
An embedded clause is a special type of subordinate clause that is inserted into the middle of a main clause instead of at the start or end of a sentence. Use this classroom display poster to reinforce how to create embedded clauses.
Learning goals
- We are learning to understand that a complex sentence contains one independent clause and at least one dependent clause joined by a subordinating conjunction, e.g. because, if, that, which is used to extend, elaborate and explain ideas.
- We are learning to identify and use embedded clauses to expand the variety of complex sentences and extend ideas, e.g. My bike, which is very old (embedded clause), is broken.
