Drawing Even More Conclusions from Data

In this worksheet, students are given the data from a short survey asked to analyse the findings. This second worksheet is designed to push students more than the first worksheet and asks students to work out the averages for the opinion data.

This worksheet is a part of a larger unit designed for Year 4 that helps students develop their statistical investigation skills by walking them through the necessary stages to plan, conduct and analyse a statistical investigation and then communicate their findings.

Learning goals

  • We are learning to conduct investigations to collect data through surveys and to record, display and interpret the data to answer questions.
  • We are learning to select and trial methods for data collection, including survey questions and recording sheets.

Modifications

The math involved in finding the averages was scaffolded on an early worksheet but may be beyond a number of students, and as such, you may want to do work out the averages as a class or compare answers before moving on to the questions.
