Learning goals

  • We are learning to solve problems involving multiplication of large numbers by 1- or 2-digit numbers using efficient mental or written strategies and appropriate digital technologies, e.g. arrays.
  • We are learning to solve problems involving division using different strategies and express answers as a whole number, decimal or fraction.
  • We are learning to multiply and divide decimals by multiples of powers of 10 using our knowledge of place value and multiplication facts (times tables), to estimate and check answers.
  • We are learning to solve problems that require finding a familiar fraction, decimal or percentage of a quantity, including percentage discounts, choosing the best strategies.
  • We are learning to solve problems involving multiplication of large numbers by one or two-digit numbers using efficient mental or written strategies and appropriate digital technologies, e.g. area model, arrays and Italian Lattice Method.
  • We are learning to solve problems involving division by a one digit number, including those that result in remainders.
  • We are learning to multiply and divide decimals by powers of 10.
  • We are learning to multiply and divide decimals by whole numbers where the results are terminating decimals.
  • We are learning to find a simple fraction of a quantity where the result is a whole number, e.g. 1/3 of a number is the same as dividing by 3.
  • We are learning to investigate and calculate percentage discounts of 10%, 25% and 50% on sale items, with and without digital technologies.
