This activity can be used at any time of the school year, but it is particularly helpful for the frist week back at school to assess student undersatnding of phonics.

Learning goals
- We are learning to orally blend and segment sentences and words and manipulate sounds in words.
- We are learning to orally blend and segment sentences, to segment words and manipulate phonemes in single-syllable words (phonological awareness).
- We are learning to understand that a letter can represent more than one sound, e.g. cat, swan, ball, fast etc. and that a syllable must contain a vowel sound.
