This ten-lesson unit covers the Australian National Curriculum for Year 6 - Earth and Space Sciences. Throughout this unit, students will develop an understanding of our solar system, including the relative sizes and distances of the planets, and how our earth moves through it. This unit involves classroom demonstrations, online research, great scientists through history and comic strips about Roman gods. Through these cross-curricular activities, students will get a handle on what we have come to understand about our place in space and how (and why) that understanding has changed through time. Every lesson comes complete with an activity worksheet, and a final summative assessment quiz can also be given to students.
Describe the movement of Earth and other planets relative to the sun and model how Earthβs tilt, rotation on its axis and revolution around the sun relate to cyclic observable phenomena, including variable day and night length
