This unit is based on the Year 3 Australian Curriculum HASS Inquiry Skills, Knowledge and Understandings for Geography. Students will learn about the representation of contemporary Australia as states and territories, and as the Countries/Places of First Nations Australians prior to colonisation. They will learn about the locations of Australia’s neighbouring regions and countries.

Interpret maps and other geographical data and information to develop identifications, descriptions, explanations and conclusions, using geographical terminology including simple grid references, compass direction and distance
Identify the origin and content features of primary sources when describing the significance of people, places and events
Identify the origin, content features and the purpose of historical sources and describe the context of these sources when explaining daily life in colonial Australia, reasons for migration and causes and effects of Federation
