This marking guide provides a 5-point rubric for assessing Year 2 student responses to the Exploring and Comparing Texts assessment. It focuses on text appreciation, organisation and topic comparison. Criteria include content understanding, language use and engagement with the task.

Learning goals

  • We are learning to identify and use language to express feelings and preferences about texts.
  • We are learning to identify the different text structures and language features of different types of texts, e.g. narratives, recounts, information reports, simple procedures, expression of opinion and responses to texts.
  • We are learning to discuss and identify similarities and differences between the same topic presented in different types of texts.
  • We are learning to identify and use language to express feelings, morals and character qualities.
  • We are learning to identify the different text structures and language features of different types of texts, e.g. simple narratives, persuasives, instructions and expositions.
  • We are learning to discuss and identify similarities and differences between texts.
