Sensational Survey Creator
With this worksheet, students are guided through the process of developing a set of survey questions, as well as given a table to record the responses to their set of questions.
This worksheet is a part of a larger unit where students develop their understanding of what data is, where it comes from, and how they can interpret and present that data in tables and graphs.
Learning goals
- We are learning to pose questions, collect and interpret categorical or numerical data by observation or survey.
- We are learning to pose questions and collect categorical or numerical data by observation or survey.
- We are learning to acquire data and construct displays including column graphs, dot plots and tables appropriate for the type of data, determining the highest frequency (mode) of the data set.
- We are learning to construct displays, including column graphs, dot plots and tables, appropriate for the type of data.
- We are learning to interpret the data in line graphs representing change over time and draw conclusions.
- We are learning to describe and interpret different data sets.

Extensions
Once the sheet is done, students can be asked to turn their data into a graph using spreadsheet software. There is purposely a lot of data that comes from this survey, so students will have to decide which of the questions they will represent in graph form, and how.
