NAIDOC History - Presentation
This presentation walks students through the history of NAIDOC week, from its inception as a “day of mourning” on the 150th anniversary of the first fleet to today, and some of the issues that affect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Learning goals
- We are learning to recognise the importance of Country/Place to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Peoples who belong to a local area.
- We are learning to identify the diversity of First Nations Peoples and the long and continuous connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples to Country/Place (land, sea, waterways and skies).
- We are learning to understand the experiences of Australian democracy and citizenship, including the status and rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, migrants, women and children.
