Estimating Answers to Difficult Decimal Questions
In this worksheet, students use rounding to come up with an estimate of a reasonable answer to some addition questions that would be difficult for them to do in their heads. Once they have an estimate for each question, they will use a calculator to check how close their estimates were.
This worksheet is part of a larger unit that was written to help your Year 6 students add and subtract decimals and develop estimates through rounding to check their answers.
Learning goals
- We are learning to apply knowledge of place value to add and subtract decimals and to use estimation and rounding to check the reasonableness of our answers.
- We are learning to estimate and approximate solutions to problems involving rational numbers and percentages.
- We are learning to add and subtract decimals and use estimation and rounding to check answers.
