Addition and Subtraction Check-up
This worksheet was written as a formative assessment activity at the beginning of our decimal addition and subtraction unit. It should let you see if and where your students lack any skills in vertical addition and subtraction so that you can deal with those before moving on to decimals. The challenge questions will also let you see if any of your students have covered this content before.
Each line of the quiz gets hard from left to right, and each line represents a slightly different skill. For example, line one is addition without regrouping, line two is all regrouping, line three is subtraction without borrowing, and line four has borrowing in every question. This should help you see quite quickly where your students are struggling.
This pretest is part of a larger unit that was written to help your Year 6 students add and subtract decimals and develop estimates through rounding to check their answers.
