Elkonin Boxes
Elkonin Boxes are a popular tool for teaching phonemic awareness. Elkonin boxes are segments of words, with each box representing one phoneme.
The ability to segment words into phonemes is a strong predictor of future independent reading success. Elkonin boxes help students to develop the ability to isolate sounds in words by providing visual representations of each word segment.
