Comparing the Area
In this worksheet, students are encouraged to calculate the areas in order to compare and work out which area is larger and smaller. Students have space to visualise and show their working out. Alternatively, students can use our 1cm grid paper found here:

This worksheet has been designed as part of our ‘Comparing Area and Volume’ unit plan- Year 4.
Learning goals
- We are learning to compare objects using familiar units of area and volume, e.g. centicubes.
- We are learning to compare the areas of irregular shapes counting square centimetres.
- We are learning to use scaled instruments to measure length, mass, capacity, duration and temperature.
- We are learning to compare the perimeter and area of shapes, counting appropriate formal and informal units.
