Achievement Standards - HASS

This printable resource contains the full set of HASS (Humanities and Social Sciences) achievement standards from Foundation to Year 6, grouped by year level and strand: History, Geography, Civics and Citizenship, and Economics and Business. Each statement is phrased as a "We are learning to..." outcome aligned with the Australian Curriculum v9.0. The resource is ideal for displaying learning intentions in the classroom, attaching to assessment tasks, or including in student portfolios to clearly communicate achievement goals to parents and staff.

Learning goals

  • We are learning to identify the people in our family, e.g. mother, father, grandparent, where they were born and raised and the relationships between family members.
  • We are learning to understand the differences in family structures and roles today, and how these have changed or remained the same over time.
  • We are learning to understand the history of a significant person, building, site or part of the natural environment in the local community and what it reveals about the past.
  • We are learning to understand how the community has changed and remained the same over time and that people of diverse backgrounds have helped shape our local communities.
  • We are learning to identify the diversity of First Nations Australians and the long and continuous connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples to Country/Place (land, sea, waterways and skies).
  • We are learning to understand the reasons (economic, political and social) for the establishment of British colonies in Australia after 1800.
  • We are learning to understand significant individuals, events and ideas that led to Australia’s Federation, the Constitution and democracy.
