Science Unit: Natural Hazards and Their Impact on Earth
The Natural Hazards and Their Impact on Earth unit is a structured, inquiry-based learning program where students explore geological and weather-related hazards such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, floods, bushfires, and droughts. Through class discussions, mapping tasks, real-world case studies, and hands-on assessments, students analyse the causes and consequences of natural disasters and evaluate human and technological strategies to mitigate their effects. The unit also examines the impact of hazards on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural sites and explores traditional and modern disaster management strategies.
