Maths Unit: Count On Subtraction

This subtraction unit will assist with practising the mental strategy of counting on. The unit will provide visual examples as well as opportunities to practise the strategy.

  • We are learning to use inverse relationships between addition and subtraction to find unknown values using different strategies.
  • We are learning to use counting-on and partitioning to understand the connection between addition and subtraction.
  • We are learning to solve problems involving modelling addition, subtraction, equal sharing and grouping, using different strategies.
  • We are learning to recall addition facts to 20 and apply to related subtraction facts using a range of strategies.
  • We are learning to use a range of mental and written strategies to solve simple addition and subtraction problems.
